About me
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Heriot-Watt University. I am also the co-director of the Maxwell Institute for the Mathematical Sciences, an institute that combines the mathematical research and graduate training in the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh and the Departments of Mathematics and of Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics at Heriot-Watt University.
My main research area is geometric group theory, specifically the study of group actions in presence of non-positive curvature. Lately, I have been particularly interested in Artin groups and their geometry.
Starting in October 2025, I will be the Project Lead of the EPSRC Standard Grant "The Geometry of the Isomorphism Problem for Artin Groups". Before that, between March 2019 and Feburary 2022, I was the Project Lead of the EPSRC Project “Geometry of Artin Group Actions” (or GAGA for short).
Together with Laura Ciobanu, I am the coordinator of the North British Geometric Group Theory research network.
I am currently an editor of the Proceedings of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society (group theory and generalisations).
